CREDITON Youth Football Club recently held a Guest Trainer Week when the aim was to get each age group a guest trainer.

This would give the players the opportunity to experience working with a different coach, and to take part in a different style of session. It would also allow the coaches to watch other coaches at work.

The club aimed to draw in as many coaches from local organisations and local clubs as possible, to forge stronger links with these coaches and to give them the opportunity to see how the club is progressing.

The event was originally planned for the week of the Beast from the East in February and had to be rescheduled for March.

Unfortunately, some of the original coaches could not make the new dates and amazingly the first night of the rescheduled event had to be cancelled owing to the Beast from the East Two.

From then on some fine coaching sessions took place. The club had managed to pull together some great coaches for the event.

These were to include Max Gillard from Primary Sports and Education, who also took along Exeter City player, Ben Seymour to one session.

From local clubs they were able to get, Matt Trenaman from Crediton United, Lloyd Phelps and Aaron Carpanini from Sandford FC and Michael Tapp from Elmore FC.

Other guests included former head of Exeter City Youth Academy, Simon Hayward and Spanish coach, Javier Martin who had worked for a while at Barcelona’s Academy.

Javier went down well with the Under 15’s players who, including the QE School boarders, have seven Spanish players in their squad.

Martin Daniel, Club Chairman said: “It is something we had talked about doing for a couple of years, and this year we actually achieved it.

“Although the weather tried its best to derail us, we eventually had a great week and some superb sessions took place and overall we were really pleased with the outcome.”
