SPREYTON 2 - COLYTON RESERVES 2

BEFORE I start this report I would like to thank the following for getting the game ahead on Saturday, September 16. Considering the conditions and the state of the pitch, at 2pm play was looking unlikely and I want to say a massive thank you to Chris Gunn-Hawking, Matt Baker, Cleave Collins, Ivor Baker, Jon Baker, Jez Stephens and Andy Hooper for making it happen!

Spreyton started the game positively with a massive amount of possession which paid off when Chris kicked the ball out from the box and Chris Down took it and flicked it in behind the defence where Matt Baker took the ball and flicked it over the ‘keeper to go 1-0 up within 15 minutes.

The rest of the first half finished up with Spreyton enjoying most of the possession but not capitalising on chances created.

Colyton found their feet in the second half and started to dominate the game. The Spreyton midfield three throughout the whole game were solid especially Mike Hows however the pressure paid off for Colyton mid-way through the second half where Colyton capitalised on a Spreyton defensive error and headed home the equaliser with 20 minutes to play.

The pressure continued from Colyton and with 10 minutes to go Colyton found themselves through on goal again to make it 2-1 to Colyton with a lot to do for Spreyton.

The lads re-grouped and started to press with the ball and chances were coming thick and fast.

A debatable penalty shout with five minutes to go created a chance for Liam Ward to step up and hit a free kick on the edge of the box just missing the clip on from Kieran Statton.

It didn’t seem our day until the ball was clipped in to Will Hawking who nodded the ball on to Chris Down to equalise in the last kick of the game!

Man of the Match was awarded to Josh Phillips.

All-in-all the game was played in great spirit from both sides and was a challenging day for the Spreys but we’ll take a point from the toughest challenge of the season so far!

Thanks go to Kim Metters and Mandy Baker who helped serve refreshments in the rain.
