CREDITON put in a stirling performance against Alphington in a home game in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League, the final score not doing them justice.

Player-manager Matt Trenaman agreed and says he is confident that his side will be able to climb away from the bottom of the table.

Crediton lost 2-0, Alphington scoring just before half-time and in the final minute of the second half at Lords Meadow.

Matt explained: "It was a disappointing scoreline, but we actually played very well.

"Performance-wise, I couldn't really ask much more from the players. We started really well and we should have been two or three up in the first half-hour.

"We had two one-on-one situations, we hit the crossbar and I thought we controlled the game for long spells. However, we didn't get the break and we didn't take our chances and they got a goal just before half-time.

"Second half I thought we played well again and we took the game to them, but unfortunately we lacked that cutting edge in the final third and they scored again in the final minute."
