FRIDAY, November 16 saw the last ever charity skittles night at Sandford Cricket Club. The event started in 2000 and became a charity event in 2002.

Organiser Nicky Radnor explained that this year she sent out 36 invites and handed out flyers at the Crediton Industrial Bowls tournament and still only had 17 teams enter.

She said: “Despite this, we will have raised in excess of £430 this year bringing the total raised to £6,300 plus.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to players past and present and to anyone who has donated prizes for the raffle over the years and done bar duty to make the event the success it has been.”

This year’s winners were: Karen Theedom (45), Graham Baker (48) and Runaways (42) highest scoring individuals and leg score over four legs with four members per team.

The main competition ended in a sudden death play-off between Okefield Raiders, Shooters and The Theedom’s which resulted in The Theedom’s being the eventual winners, with Shooters runners-up.

Following the presentation of the prizes, Colin Lever thanked Nicky for her hard work over the years and explained a little about the charity and importance of the money. As always a game of “killer” for the Chris Clement Cup concluded the evening. Rather fittingly the cup was won by Colin Lever, Chris’s grandfather.

The money raised at the skittles nights over the year’s goes to a special school, in memory of Chris, in St Lucia which supports pupils with developmental difficulties.
