DOZENS of competitors battled it out during a two-day community badminton tournament in the city.

The United Smash Cup 2026 saw 48 competitors from nine ethnic backgrounds taking part at Wonford Leisure Centre and Isca Academy.

The tournament was aimed at all communities and people of all skill levels.

It was organised by Inclusive Exeter, a community-led organisation which brings together groups and individuals from ethnically diverse communities across Exeter.

Exeter City Council supported the event through its Sport England-supported Live and Move, which is committed to providing opportunities for the least active people in the city to be more active.

Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure and Healthy Living, said that events such as this are vital for communities across the city.

He said: “Exeter City Council is absolutely committed to making it easier for people across the city to be more active.

“We know that for many residents being more active doesn’t mean running marathons, or taking up ambitious new exercise regimes, but simply having a go at a new activity with friends. Events such as this one provide a great opportunity to get involved, meet some new people and most importantly, to have fun.”
