I SET the scene for the coming season at Sandford Cricket Club two weeks ago.

Unfortunately I hadn’t totally taken on board all the restrictions that are currently in place while the Covid regulations are being eased.

The most important thing is that although there will be two games of cricket being played at Creedy Park this weekend, these are only able to go ahead on the strict understanding that there are NO spectators allowed on the ground.

The Club pleads with you all that, no matter how good the weather is, you resist the temptation to visit the ground.

Cricket is being put under the spotlight to make sure that it can restart with social distancing in place but these rules do not come in until April 12, so anyone who mistakenly turns up at the ground this weekend will find the gates being marshalled and you will be politely requested to return home.

To make everyone feel much better about this restriction it is important to bear in mind that had spectators been allowed, the bar would not have been open so you wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the pleasures of Sandford Orchards and other thirst quenching alternatives.

These will be available at next week’s fixture on April 17, and more information will be given on how the Club will operate in the early weeks of the season in next week’s issue.
