A FRIENDLY cricket match between Eve’s Boys and Vice-Presidents Eleven was played at Shobrooke Park on Tuesday evening, August 2, in memory of Yeoford Cricket Club’s late scorer Eve Collins.

Eve’s husband Cleave,Vice President of Yeoford CC gathered together a formidable team of players representing Spreyton, Belstone, Tedburn St Mary and family members to make the Vice-Presidents Eleven.

Captain of Yeoford, Paul Coren, selected the team “Eve’s Boys” from Yeoford players who knew Eve well from her years as their scorer.

Vice-Presidents Eleven selected to bat first and soon started to score steadily with Matt Dennis (23), Chris Filor (21), Phil Dennis (20), Ryan Glass (20), Pete Rich (20) and Freddie Filor (23) all retired.

All the players bowled two overs with Lindsay Coren and Paul Leach taking a wicket each.

Vice-Presidents eleven finished their 20 overs with 151 on the scoreboard.

Eve’s Boys went in to bat with a big target to chase down. Opening batsman Matt Leach batted well retiring on 20 with Danny Uren also batting well on 25 not out.

With tight bowling Eve’s Boys struggled to score enough runs and finished their innings for 89.

The evening was well-attended with Cleave’s cousins driving up from Launceston to watch the match.

Delicious burgers and hotdogs were barbecued by Cleave and Eve’s daughter, Jo and her husband Kevin, (before his debut game of cricket).

Donations made for the food raised £230 for Hospiscare.

Thanks go to Roger of Shobrooke Cricket Club for all his help setting up the pitch and running the bar, Les Stanbury and John Saunders for umpiring and Jackie Coren for scoring.

The evening was sponsored by Trish and Chris Filor.

Special thanks go to Cleave for organising what was a very enjoyable evening – Eve would have approved.
