THE month of May has been successful for Sandford First Eleven who have won all four of their opening Division A fixtures.

The team lie second in the table to Hatherleigh and start June at home, tomorrow (Saturday), to bottom side Brixham.

The first game saw a magnificent run chase against Cornwood. Set a target of 255, Sandford won the game by four wickets on the penultimate ball.

Skipper Richard Foan, back from Australia and leading the troops, scored a terrific 118.

Richard has had a tremendous start to the season having scored a total of 280 runs in the four games at an average of 70.00.

Charlie Fitzroy is the only other batsman to have scored a 50 but there have been several useful contributions from many of the other batsmen.

Sandford then won a rain-affected game at Budleigh Salterton on the Duckworth Lewis method and have followed this up with a seven-wicket thrashing of Lewdown and a much tighter three wicket win against Chudleigh.

In these four games the bowlers have taken a total of 27 wickets which have been shared around by no fewer than nine different bowlers.

Leading wicket taker so far is Pete Steer (6) closely followed on four by Richard Foan (proving his value as an all-rounder) and Jamie Palmer.

Reports on the start made by the Second Eleven and the Second Sunday teams will follow in the next couple of issues of the “Courier” but why not make a visit to Creedy Park this weekend to sample both the cricket and hospitality that is being offered?
