Teignmouth 10

Crediton 14

WHAT a difference a week has made to Crediton Under 13's. With poor tackling letting the side down last week, there was no surprise that this week training concentrated on tackling and pressurising the opposition.

The hard work paid dividends against what was a good tough opposition certainly out for the win.

Crediton scored first with a good run from Will Crang who crashed over the line and converted by Matt Cooke.

Teignmouth soon piled on the pressure with a good reply, the winger putting the ball over in the corner.

At half-time the only difference between the two sides was two points.

In the second half Crediton had the sun in their eyes and both teams competed hard.

Eventually with excellent ball handling from the backs, Josh Woodland, supporting well from deep, ran in a good try putting the ball beneath the posts.

The steady boot of Matt Cooke left Teignmouth needing to score twice and it was no surprise when the Teignmouth backs scored once again in the corner.

With a few minutes left on the clock it was a nail-biting finish for supporters and coaches as Crediton defended their try line with all that they could muster, with much relief as the final whistle blew.

With not much between the two teams it came down to the conversions.

Well done to Matt Cooke and well done to everyone. The whole team put in 100 per cent and all really wanted to win.

What a difference tackling makes to the side.

Guess what they are doing again in training this week?

BARNSTAPLE 5

CREDITON 25

IT was a return to winning ways for Crediton under 14's last weekend who were playing away to a strong Barnstaple team.

Crediton were able to travel with a squad of 19 players including new recruit Harry Radford, who was making his debut as scrum-half.

Crediton started strongly kicking deep into the Barnstaple half and mounting a period of pressure which lead to Crediton being awarded a penalty as Barum were penalised at a ruck.

Centre, Barrie Karea, stepped up and struck a sweet kick that sailed through to give Kirton a 3-0 lead.

The game then ebbed and flowed with Crediton looking threatening on the wing with Bobby Jenkin making several pacey runs.

Eventually it was prop power that brought about the first try as Rob Lancaster crashed over to extend Crediton's lead.

Fly-half, Callum Vanstone, slotted the extras to take the lead to 10-0.

Barnstaple rallied and after Crediton were, themselves, penalised for going off their feet at the ruck, the resulting play saw Barum go over for their only points to make it 10-5 to Crediton at half-time.

The second half saw more strong attacking play from Crediton with strong runs from centre, Karea, wing, Abe Dellamuro and full-back, David Gray to name but a few.

Crediton were also strong at the scrum and the ruck with lock, Danny Martin (capt), prop, Matt Goodman and man of the match, hooker, Jack Yendell among those getting through plenty of work at the coal face.

Crediton extended their lead when a powerful charging run from Lewis Terry saw him go over in the corner to make it 15-5 to Crediton.

Crediton continued to exert pressure and good handling from the back line put speedy winger, Dellamuro, away and he raced through the despairing Barum defence to touch down for Crediton's third try of the game.

Dellamuro added his second and Crediton's fourth of the game moments later when he fielded a kick from the restart and again carved his way down the wing, much to the dismay of the Barum side.

The final whistle soon followed and Crediton had notched their 21st win of the season in fine style!
