CLUB FRIENDLIES

Monday, September 7, seven men’s rinks – team Crediton v Avon and Somerset Constabulary – home – Crediton entertained their visitors from Somerset and Bristol on and off the Bowling Green. On the Green they lost to Crediton by 27 shots, but after in the club house they received a warm welcome which finished with an excellent dinner which was prepared by the ladies’ of the club. E Staite lost 15-23, J Abbott won 25-15, R Scott lost 14-22, R Grant won 22-15, C Bond won 28-15, P Martin won 23-22 and M Haywood won by 25-12 shots. Crediton won by 152-125 shots.

Wednesday, September 9 – six men’s rinks – team Crediton v Kent Past Presidents - home – Crediton entertained their visitors from Kent but sadly lost the match by 17 shots against a very good bowling team. The day started on a happy note where £51 was raised on a bowlers Spider which was won by John Robbins. (a Bowlers Spider is a bowling “Jack” placed in the middle of the bowling green and all the bowlers – bowl at once – and the person nearest the “Jack” wins the litre of whisky which was donated. The £51 will go towards the Kent Captain’s charity which is Alzheimers Disease. G Newbery won 26-14, J Abbott lost 14-17, P Martin lost 15-24, R Grant lost 15-27, R Scott lost 18-21 and N Cann lost 15-17. Crediton lost by 103-120 shots.

Thursday, September 10 – four mixed rinks – team Crediton v Okehampton - away - M Haywood won 21-17, C Marshall drew 19-19, J Martin 25-12 & S Wollacott won 23-14. Crediton won by 88-62 shots.

Saturday, September 12 – six mixed triples – team Crediton v Torrington – home - Crediton had a narrow three shots victory over their visitors from Torrington, North Devon. M Haywood lost 15-16, T Newbery won 29-10, J Martin lost 13-20, T Chamberlain drew 19-19, P Martin lost 14-19 and M Grant lost 14-17. Crediton won by 104-101 shots.

BOWLS DEVON MEN’S FOUR WOOD SINGLES FINAL

Sunday, September, 6 – playing on his own club green, Crediton, Robert Paxton defeated Lee Haywood of Shaldon by 21-17 shots. Paxton went five shots down, but then went into a 11-5 lead – and then slipped back to 11-13 before regaining the initiative over the next seven ends of bowls to take the County Four Woods Singles title.

LADIES’ BENEVOLENT TRIPLES

Sunday, September 6 – one ladies’ triple – a Crediton ladies’ triple rink of Jill Heal, Maggie Chaplin and Myra Grant lost in the Semi Final of the ladies’ Benevolent Triples by 15-16 shots to a rink from Sir Francis Drake, Plymouth, B Allen, S Porritt and A Edwards. The game was played at the Hemyock Bowling Club.

LADIES’ OVER 50’s LEAGUE

Tuesday, September 8 – two ladies’ triples – team Green v Seaton - away – J Martin won 30-12 and D Richards lost 7-18. Crediton won by 37-30 shots – league points 4-2. Congratulations to Crediton team Yellow on winning the over 50’s division league title.

Wednesday, September 9 – two ladies’ triples – team Yellow v Seaton – away – C Bishop lost 15-17 and M Scott 17-13. Crediton won 32-30 shots – league points 4-2

CLUB FINALS DAY

MEN’S HANDICAP FINAL

Thursday, September 2 – in a club Handicap Final which was marked by Leslie Bradfield – Robin Scott defeated Tom Richards by 25-17 shots.

LADIES’ TWO WOODS FINAL

Tuesday, September 8 – in a match that was marked by Cynthia Bishop – Jill Heal defeated Murial Scott by 17-6 shots in the final of the Ladies’ Two Woods.

MENS THREE WOODS FINAL

Sunday, September 13 – Tom Richards defeated Roy Andrews by 21-13 shots in the final of the two woods.

MENS TWO WOODS FINAL

Sunday, September 13 – playing their second final of the day against each other – Roy Andrews gained revenge over Tom Richards by defeating him by 21-14 shots to make up for his defeat in the three woods earlier in the day.

BILL BALE NON CUP

WINNERS CUP FINAL

Sunday, September 13 – Bill Crilly had a 21-13 shots victory over Philip Milford in the final of the Bill Bale Cup – in a match that was marked by Colin Fribbens.

LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP

Sunday, September 13 – Joan Martin is the new ladies’ Club Champion - She defeated Maggie Chaplin by 21-14 shots in an excellent final – which was marked by Jill Heal. In the Semi Finals Maggie Chaplin defeated Mary Abbott by 21-11 shots and Christine Rainford lost to Joan Martin by 15-21 shots.

LADIES’ HANDICAP FINAL

Sunday, September 13 – Jill Heal defeated Murial Scott by 26-22 shots the final of the ladies’ Handicap – where Heal had a handicap of 26 shots to Scott’s 28 shots. This is the second time that the two ladies’ had played each other in club finals this week with Heal winning both games of high quality bowling.

LADIES’ NON CUP FINAL

Sunday, September 13 – Christine Marshall ‘marked’ this match that went to the wire with Beverley Cann defeating her sister Natalie Milford by 21-18 shots in an exciting finish to the game. All these finals were organised by Dorothy Richards the club Competition Secretary.
