AT the National Bowling Finals being held at Leamington Spa, Devon won the John’s Trophy.

This is awarded to the winners of the County Championship and the photo above shows members of Crediton Bowling Club who were part of the victorious team.

Nikki Payne, Liz Smerdon and Jackie Hemmings Anthony all played and the team was managed by Crediton Bowling Club President, Joan Martin.

I have reported previously how Nikki and Liz were also being joined in competitions by Amy Bond and Helen Ellis.

Unfortunately all met their match at some time during the competitions but can be truly proud of their achievement in reaching the National Finals.

There are two ladies teams that play in the local league against teams from Sidmouth, Seaton, Uffculme, Ottery St Mary and Honiton.

The season is drawing to a conclusion and it looks like the Green team will finish near to the top of the table while the Yellow team will be closer to the bottom!

Mens Over 60s League

The Men’s Over 60’s League is definitely still all to play for.

An 8-0 thrashing of Heavitree A has taken the side back to third.

They are two points behind Seaton A and five behind Marina A who have played one game more, so the run in is very important.

The B team inflicted an 8-0 mauling to Axminster which moves the side up to third in the table but still highly unlikely to catch the top two which are Tiverton Borough and Axminster.

The only positive that can come from the C team defeat of 8-0 by Madeira is that the side is definitely safe from relegation with two matches still to be played.

This is progress from previous years and Captain Joe Miles is to be congratulated on his team selection throughout the season.

There were two good wins for the Friendly teams this week avenging home defeats earlier in the season.

Firstly the trip to Starcross ended with a 94-83 victory and then the following day South Molton were turned over by 92-84 on their rink.

As County and National competitions are nearing completion the spotlight turns to friendly fixtures.

The final game of the season will be held in one month today on September 24 but in those 31 days there are 20 days when there is action so make sure you come down to Newcombes to watch.
