AS in the wonderfully funny films in the “Carry On” series, Crediton Bowling Club members are keeping in touch with each other on Facebook with challenges of who can create unusual poses for their bowls.

Club member Christine Marshall, explained: "During this time of lockdown, many manoeuvres are being made by our National body Bowls England and we have been informed that all International and National competitions are off for 2020 and Bowls Devon have followed suit with instructions to all clubs.

"We are pleased that within the Government guidelines and with additional specific information provided by Bowls England, we are able to attend to the bowling green, to ensure that it stays in playable condition going forward.

"Our wonderful team of volunteer groundsmen are attending to that task on a regular basis, adhering to social distancing as required.

"It looks so inviting, we can only look and dream of what might have been this season!

“Feeling that it is unlikely that we shall be playing at all in 2020, or a minimum of maybe a few weeks at the end of the 2020 season, Bowls Devon has rolled over its Presidency team to 2021."

This means that Crediton member, Christine Marshall herself, will be take up her duties as the Bowls Devon Ladies President next year instead.

Christine added: "The prestigious Bowls Devon games that we were going to cater for this year will now be organised for 2021. Bowls Devon is already mapping out the fixture list for 2021!

"The club has been successful in being awarded a £10k Government grant through the Council, which will help it stave off some of the problems that a non-season of bowling and lack of fees will obviously bring.

"The photos show that we are getting a bit ‘stir crazy’ and obviously missing our bowling buddies."
