AFTER the long break because of covid restrictions, members of North Tawton Bowling Club celebrated getting together again and the start of a new season on a gloriously sunny afternoon on Easter Saturday.

In the absence of the club President, Mike Thwaites, who could not be there, the honour of sending down the first bowl went to the main Greenkeeper, Dave Cooper.

Hard work by him and the other two greenkeepers, Paul Andrews and Robert Arscott, plus all the voluntary work by a number of other people had certainly paid off with an immaculate green and everything spick and shining.

The club was formed in 1955, on the site it still occupies.  The clubhouse had been at the bottom of the green and is still used but a wonderful new clubhouse was opened in 2017, overlooking the green.

That afternoon was a friendly match introducing everyone back to the green.

Club chairman, John Kinsey, commented that after the past two years it was wonderful to see so many members and new members at the opening day.   Competitive and friendly bowling begins before the end of April.

Mr Kinsey added: “We always welcome new members and have had a number join us this year.  Anyone interested in knowing more about the club, please contact the club or come to one of our Monday evening members’ nights which start at 6pm.  Please wear soft shoes.”
