CAT Down, newly elected Chair of the Bickleigh School Association (BSA) took on the Devon hills on Sunday, October 5, following the catchment route of Bickleigh on Exe Primary school.
It took Cat an incredible six hours and 42 minutes to complete the hilly route, comprising of 4,759ft elevation, all in the midst of Storm Alex.
It was part of a fundraising initiative the BSA set up to help cover the estimated £4,000 cost of a new school library.
A classroom is being transformed into a woodland themed library, providing an interesting, inviting and relaxing space for children to encourage them to read.
Cat said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. I think the poor conditions made it even more special when I reached the end.
"I hope my completion of it will inspire our parents and pupils to get up and active, whilst raising money for our school.
"The support along the way was amazing. I really wasn’t expecting it.
"I had parents, pupils and friends cycle and run with me, others braved the weather cheering, giving me sweets and flapjack!"
Mr Bosley, the Head of Bickleigh on Exe Primary School said: "Bickleigh School continues to benefit from the unwavering support of our families, including the invaluable input of its Parent Teachers Association.
"The Bickleigh School Catchment Challenge is helping to keep everyone active and healthy, whilst raising funds for an essential resource, that will be invaluable to pupils now and in years to come."
The BSA have had to think creatively to raise funds, with the usual fundraising activities being cancelled due to Covid-19.
