DEVON County Youth Brass Band returned to Crediton for a workshop on January 27, with principal trombone player, Dr L Brett Baker from Black Dyke Band, a championship brass band.
More than 20 fine young musicians from across the county attended the event.
Sarah Jones, secretary of the band said that the band had been started by her husband, Peter, 14 years ago and that it welcomes all musicians grade four and equivalent or above. Peter is the musical director and Chris Spreadbury is the assistant conductor.
She said that the band is for those aged from 11 to 24 years and it meets for rehearsals about eight times a year and plays at public events, including, annually, the Devon County Show.
Sarah added that the band relies on grants and donations to survive, adding that Devon Music Services had sponsored the Crediton workshop, adding thanks to Crediton Lions who had also previously sponsored the Crediton workshop.
At the end of the day-long workshop, which was held at the Boniface Centre, a short 15-minute recital/concert was presented to parents and guardians and guests.
