ACTIVE Villages (Mid Devon) are inviting people to "Try Nordic Walking" when they hold two free taster sessions in Sandford this month.

The first two-hour session will be held on Tuesday, September 24 and another on Monday, September 30. Meeting point for both are the Community Post Office in the Square at 10.30am.

All ages and abilities are welcome and poles will be provided. The walk can be designed to meet the group's needs.

A qualified instructor will lead each session, so even if you are a beginner or expert, why not go along a try one of them.

Nordic walking is fitness walking using specially designed poles. Compared to regular walking, it involves applying force to the poles with each stride. Nordic walkers use more of their entire body (with greater intensity) and receive fitness building stimulation not present in normal walking.

It has been estimated that it can produce up to a 46 per cent increase in energy consumption, compared to walking without poles.
