WELL-RESPECTED and inspirational art teacher and local artist David Lublinski FRSA, also known as David Samuel, died recently at the age of 85.

A selection of his art works is being shown during CredFest 2017.

Mr Lublinski is being honoured with a whole room to himself at Charlesworth Nicholl Solicitors at 31 High Street, Crediton, as part of the Artist Town Trail, which will run from tomorrow, Saturday, June 10 to June 17, and includes works by 42 various artists in shops and business premises.

Mr Lublinski sculpted in stone, terracotta and papier-mâché, and drew in ink.

He exhibited in the UK, Finland and Germany, and paintings in British collections included gifts to Harrow, Hertford College, Oxford, and Exeter University, a purchase by St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and a commission by Crediton Parish Church.

His unique painting style involved days of meticulous drawing followed by months of brushwork, applying thin oil glazes alternating with razor scratches in the dried paint, creating a vibrant depth of colour and intriguing texture. The same image sometimes inspired several versions.

He moved with his wife Margot to Tedburn St Mary, near Exeter in 1964, where he had a smallholding with a studio.

For more than two decades Tedburn Art Group in particular benefited from his expertise. He was also chair of the parent staff association of Queen Elizabeth’s School, Crediton.

He chaired Crediton Writers’ Circle, wrote and performed in amateur drama groups, and was an adult education art tutor.

His art can be viewed during office hours at Charlesworth Nicholl Solicitors during the Art Trail.

To compliment The Artists Trail an Art Exhibition is being held in The Boniface Centre on Saturday, June 17 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, June 18 from 11am-4pm.
