MORRIS dancers from as far afield as Ripley in Derbyshire converged on the sleepy hamlet of Merton in West Devon during the weekend of May 19-21 which culminated in a mass dance at Merton Village Hall on the Sunday.

Members of Winkleigh Morris were among the teams that visited. Despite the showery weather on Saturday three coaches took morris dancers to 15 different venues in North and West Devon including Castle Drogo, Chagford, Bideford, Torrington and Barnstaple, where dancing displays took place.

Entertainment also included a ceilidh on the Saturday evening, a church service and a local walk on the Sunday morning and informal music making throughout the weekend.
