THE Easter Trail, organised this week by Christians Together in Crediton (CTiC), is now in place and the public is invited to walk the trail, obviously observing social distancing and Covid-19 legislation.

The trail is modelled on the Stations of the Cross.

The "Stations" grew out of imitations of Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem, believed to have been the path walked by Jesus to Mount Calvary.

There are six "Stations" in Crediton as follows: No 1 at St Lawrence Chapel showing the walk on Palm Sunday. No 2 at the Congregational Church depicts herbal plants to indicate the smells of the expensive ointment that the women anointed Jesus with.

No 3 in the Town Square shows the Last Supper, which was held on Maundy Thursday. No 4 is at the Methodist Church and portrays how Jesus was alone in the Garden of Gethsemane.

No 5, erected just outside the door of Holy Cross Church, shows the Crucifixion cross and smaller crosses depicting burdens we could all relate to.

No 6 at the St Boniface Roman Catholic Church shows the empty tomb, with the entrance removed.

The trail is for all to visit and has been used as a witness by the Christians in the town to convey the message of the Easter story, as this year it was not possible to have the Walk of Witness as usual.

The stations will be in situ until April 4 for people to visit.
