WELL done to ex-Crediton Town Councillor Anne Hughes for her letter in the last issue of the Courier and thanking Cllr John Downes for helping the residents of Exeter Road and pedestrians using the pavement, to get a pedestrian crossing before its too late and someone is knocked down and who knows, could be killed.

The speed of some drivers is dangerous. Why is it that Exeter has crossings everywhere for safety? Crediton has nothing!

Even a copy of a letter I received from the Exeter Mobility Centre last year, of which I sent copies to Devon County Council, has been ignored.

Last Wednesday my husband, Derrick and I decided to chance our luck to go out in our car. One lady stopped to let us cross. Believe it or not, eight cars passed us until I stood in the middle of the road and made the driver stop.

The lady who stopped to let us cross stayed until Derrick was able to cross.

On the way back we had the same problem, until an ambulance response car stopped to let us cross Park Road.

In Mill Street, drivers are in the same boat as us. I'm afraid the police are the same; even they won't stop to let us cross the road.

One thing I do know is that if we get hit, Devon County Council will be responsible. I didn't realise these councillors could be so ignorant.

Next time there is a General Election don't call on us - empty promises we don't want.

On Radio Devon this week Devon County Council said they are responsible for health and safety. In Crediton that doesn't seem to apply - disgusting!
