THE idea of the Sandford Bake Off, which will be held on Saturday, January 28 at Sandford Parish Hall, is that people who like baking enter one (or more!) of five categories.
These categories are Cakes, Cookies and Tray Bakes, Devon Cream Tea, “Free From” (this can be free from gluten, dairy, fat, sugar etc) and Made for Kids by Kids (ie made predominately by the child).
It costs £2 to enter an entry into a category but you can enter as many categories as you like or even enter more than one entry into a category!
You need to book into the competition by contacting 07855 851616 or via the Sandford Playgroup “Facebook” page as there will be a maximum of 20 entries in each category.
How does it raise money?
As well as the money raised by the competition entries there is an entrance fee to the event, which will be open to the public from 2pm to 4pm.
This is £5 for adults and children over 12, £3 for children under 12 and free for children under two years.
Covered in the cost of the entrance fee is unlimited samples of all the cakes, cookies, tray bakes, scones etc!
Once you have sampled the entries from a category you will be asked to decide on just one favourite and to place the number of that entry on a voting slip. At the end of the afternoon the slips will be counted and the winner will be awarded with a prize.
As well as the sampling there will also be some food or drink related demonstrations.
Refreshments will be available to wash down the delicious treats. There will be a raffle and tombola and children’s crafts including badge making, cake decorating and creating a chef’s hat!
