CHERITON Fitzpaine Wassail was a huge success, starting at the Half Moon Pub, where lots of revellers set out, banging saucepan lids and drums, as they processed to the Ring of Bells courtyard.

Here, the MC, Matt Poulter, introduced the ceremonies, before everyone proceeded to Jack’s Acre. Here, mulled cider and soft drinks were available.

The Morris Men gave us several dances and children were able to join in. We had mummers, fire dancers and a short play from the witches, who cackled very realisticly.

Elly Babbedge and Julia Sanders were the drummers; Will Metcalf the Green Man, and John Brown the Hobby Horse.

Claire Borlase spent the whole evening with a huge framework Christmas Tree encircling her, and the witches were played by: Julia Metcalf, Becky Smith, Monika Bokori-Brown, Laura Kemp and Neve Hall.

Terry and Jan Hadley ensured everyone’s safety and acted as stewards - no mean feat in the pitch black!

The Committee would especially like to thank Rosebourne Developments, and Lords Meadow Leisure Centre for their help and support.
