For every transaction made, the shopper will be given a voting token that they can use to cast a vote in store for their favourite community project.
The school’s PTFA applied to Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative during the summer and has been selected as one of the three winning projects for this region.
The scheme will see three community groups and projects awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags in Tesco.
Thorverton Primary School has applied for money to fund a number of plans including the installation of a new outdoor play equipment trail, sensory garden and trails, plus improvements to wheelchair access across the school.
It says the funding will make an enormous difference to each and every child at the school, adding: “Please make your vote count.”
