VOLUNTEERS set off from Sandford Community Sports Pavilion on Saturday, April 27, for the annual Village Litter Pick where they collected three bags of litter compared to seven the previous year.

The event, organised by Sandford Parish Council, covered the same five areas as the previous year all within the village 30mph speed limit.

The litter pickers were split into groups and covered areas including the Millennium Green, the playing field, Mill Lane, Meadowside, Snows, Brady Close, Creedy View, Fanny’s Lane, The Square, Church Street, Linhay Park, Crofts, Rose and Crown Hill, Back Lane and Orchard Close.

Members of the council, volunteers and members of Sandford Scouts helped to collect the litter.

Sandford Parish Clerk, Malcolm Vallance, said: “Thank you to the small but enthusiastic band that turned out for the Annual Sandford Litter Pick.

“We picked up three bags of rubbish mostly thrown into the hedge on the Crediton Road.

“We could find NO litter on the Millennium Green and comments were made on how well the Green is looking at present thanks to the volunteers who work down there so hard our behalf.”
