THE story appeared in the Courier on Friday, June 17, issue 1090.
Later this year The Devon Air Ambulance Trust plans to start flying every day up to midnight and is looking for a suitable landing site that can be used at night.
Lighting, which could be switched on remotely, would be needed and the site would also need good access for pedestrians and vehicles.
It was suggested that a helipad would be a good community asset, in that it would be managed and funded by the community.
Initial thoughts suggest that the most likely site could be The Rec, the playing field at the entrance to Lords Meadow Industrial Estate. Other potential sites that have been considered include Landscore Primary School playing field, People Park and Newcombes Meadow, but these sites were considered too small for landing at night or access was restricted.
Extending the service until midnight every day will cost the charity another £1 million a year so it is looking to the community to develop their own night landing sites.
The air ambulance would continue to land as close to where it was needed during the day.
Do you think the Rec at Lords Meadow Industrial Estate would be a good night landing site for the air ambulance or do you have an alternative suggestion?

What you told us ……….
Because there are so few flat areas in Crediton it would be a very good idea for the air ambulance to land at the Rec at Lords Meadow Industrial Estate at night.
Copplestone Resident
No-one should be on the meadow at that time of night so it should be fine. The air ambulance needs support and their support is declining. If I lived in Crediton (I work here) I would be happy for them to land wherever they needed. They need all the support they can get.
Exeter Resident
The Rec wouldn’t be used for anything else at that time of night so I think it’s a good idea.
Paul Butters, Crediton
It will help people at night. Maybe we can afford to do something for them, they do enough for us. If someone had a heart attack or stroke or was seriously injured it would be quicker to take them to hospital by air ambulance. I think they do a brilliant job.

They gave a good presentation to the Town Council and a few places they could use were suggested. It will increase the speed of getting someone to hospital. It’s brilliant what they do and we should help.
Town Mayor Cllr Frank Letch, Crediton
I think the air ambulance is a brilliant service and we should do everything we can to help.
