THE story appeared in the "Courier" on Friday, October 24, issue 1,004.

The story was in response to the recent consultation into the future of library services in Devon, looking at alternative ways to retain a professionally-managed library service.

In response, Crediton Library aims to set up a friends group that will fundraise and support the library.

Membership to the Friends of Crediton Library group is to children, young people and adults, who are interested in supporting the library.

It is hoped that members will help to promote the library in many ways including supporting a range of events, fundraising and raising the profile of the library within the community.

The first meeting of the group will be held at Crediton Library between 6pm and 7pm on Tuesday, November 18.

Staff at the library are working hard to set up the new group. Do you think it's a good idea to get members of the community more involved in supporting the library?

Please let me know what you think. Contact Nora at 102 High Street, Crediton or email: [email protected]">[email protected] .

Readers are also invited to take part in the poll on the Courier website: http://www.creditoncouriernewspaper.co.uk">www.creditoncouriernewspaper.co.uk.

What you told us ..........

It would be a shame if the library were to close. My mother-in-law regularly takes my daughter to the library to borrow books. I think it's a good idea to set up a friends group.

Lucy Skinner, Cheriton Fitzpaine

I think it's a lovely idea to set up a friends group. I am unable to use Crediton library as I do not have transport - but anything that keeps the library going is good.

Maureen Harris, Coldridge

My husband and I use the library a lot and we would be lost without it. We both love reading. There is also a lot for children at the library. I think setting up a friends group is a very good idea. What on earth would we do without a library?

I started to use the new link road thinking it would be quicker, but I kept getting held up by lorries unloading along Marsh Lane. I have now gone back to using the Exeter Road route!
