VEHICLES spanning two centuries including a yellow Bond Bug, Model T Ford, AA patrolman’s combo, tractors and stationary engines were on show at the Thorverton Gas Up on Sunday, May 12, to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
This was the 18th Gas Up held at Sunnymead, organised by Mike Lee with his Mum, June, and friends. It had been started by Mike’s father, John, for DAAT as it as been ever since apart from one or two years.
Mike is a member of Mid Devon Tractor Engine and Machinery Group which had several members present.
Ces Courtney, secretary of Exeter and District Model Engineering Society was driving the five-inch gauge railway engine with its single carriage for passengers. The set up is owned by Samuel Woolley.
The little engine is a Ajax model built in Malawi by locomotive apprentices. The Society is building a permanent track at St Catherine’s Priory in Exeter.
All the vehicles and stationary engines were in the field with refreshments served in the big barn where there was also a bric-a-brac stall was with more stalls set up at one side of the field. Outside were the plant stalls.
Being such a warm day, pasties for the hungry were selling as fast as the ice creams.
