CREDITON Foodbank, in addition to needing some food donations, is urgently seeking voluntary support from a local builder.

Chris Parsons, Crediton Foodbank Co-ordinator, recently pulled back a section of lino flooring where a hole was developing and found that a section of the floor is rotten in one section.

The Foodbank is located in The Manse at Crediton Congregational Church.

Chris said that she believes the rotten flooring is spreading and also has some basic decorating needs she would like doing.

“If anyone knows a builder or carpenter who would be willing to give some time it would be greatly appreciated,” she said.

If you can help, please contact Chris on 07740 202721.

It is feared that if the floor is not repaired, then it could lead to the service provided not being able to run.

FOOD ITEMS WANTED

Crediton Foodbank is run by Churches Together in Crediton. It offers food parcels to single people, couples and families who are on a low income or have had benefit delays.

Any changes to benefits results in at least a five-week delay when people often have no money coming in.

This year so far, Crediton Foodbank has given out 227 adult food parcels plus 83 children’s parcels.

Donations of food can be made directly to the Foodbank on Tuesday mornings (from 10am to 12 noon) or Friday evenings (6.30pm to 7.30pm) or via the Tesco Foodbin, the Yellow Bookshop or at the “Courier” office.

The current need is for: Coffee, Sugar, Tinned meals – meat, Tuna in Water, Long Life Milk, Long Life Juices, Baked beans and Tinned fruit.

Please note that no soup or sanitary towels is needed at present.

If you would like to know anymore or be updated regarding current needs please email Chris at: [email protected] .

Chris added: “With Universal Credit coming to our area in June we can expect a further increase in the need to use a Foodbank - nationally Foodbanks have seen a 13 per cent increase following introduction of UC.”

She added particular thanks to the support received by the Foodbank from Andrew Drayton, the Community Champion at the Crediton Tesco Store, in setting up collection days and other assistance.
