EMERGENCY services rushed to the scene of a road traffic collision with a report of persons trapped on the A377 between Exeter and Newton St Cyres at New Bridge Cross, Newton St Cyres this afternoon, Sunday, June 6.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue was called to attend at 1.44pm and one fire engine from Danes Castle, Exeter and one from Middlemoor, Exeter, plus a heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor were quickly mobilised to the incident.

On arrival, crews reported a two vehicle collision with one person physically trapped.

Crews assisted one male from a vehicle using small tools.

Three casualties were also treated by the Ambulance Service, who were also at the incident.

A Devon Air Ambulance attended.

The A377 was closed in the immediate area and diversions were put in place by Devon County Council.

Many minor roads were blocked by traffic trying to find alternative routes.

The road is expected to reopen after the recovery of the vehicles.
