CREDITON Parish Church will tonight, Wednesday, September 4, host "Uncle Tom Cobley and All", an evening of word and song revealing the long and curious history of Devon’s anthem.

Unknown variants of the ballad will be reintroduced, some after hundreds of years.

The evening is part of a four-week Devon-wide tour recreating Sabine Baring-Gould’s Costume Lecture Tour which introduced "Widdicombe Fair" to the world in 1888.

With Dr Todd Gray MBE will be local singing group "Mellow D".

The evening will begin at 7.30pm and tickets, priced at £5 will be available at the door or through AE Lee outfitters.

The evening is being staged in association with Crediton and District U3A, Crediton Area History and Museum Society and Holy Cross Church, Crediton.?All profits will go to the Holy Cross Crediton Campaign Roof Appeal.
