A DOZEN UKIP activists from Crediton were out campaigning at the weekend.

With signs reading "We Love Brexit" the group was keen to remind the public that since locals voted to leave the EU the FTSE 100 index has risen and that 27 countries have expressed their desire to do immediate trade deals with the UK.

"There’s been far too much doom and gloom. The world has not ended and the sky has not fallen in despite dire predictions in the media and from certain politicians. The truth is that we voted to leave and EU and we should be celebrating our independence," said Tim Matthews, one of the event organisers.

He added: ”There was a high turn out for the referendum and the result was clear. What we are now calling for is for Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to be invoked and for Theresa May to get us out of the EU as soon as possible.

“More and more people are coming to realise that life outside the EU will be better for Britain in the medium and long-term."

Many people were said to be thrilled to see the campaigners and passing motorists honked their appreciation at the patriotic stall.

A total of 80 passers-by signed a petition calling for Britain to leave the EU at the earliest possible moment.

Mr Matthews added: "The message should be clear. UKIP has a message that resonates with the public.

“More than 2,000 people have joined the party nationally since June 23 and we are confident that UKIP-style politics - presenting common sense policies that are popular with local people - is here to stay in Central Devon and will grow in the years to come."
