THE next fund-raising talk in support of the Holy Cross Campaign Roof Appeal is to be held at the Boniface Centre, Church Lane Crediton on Monday, October 7 and will be given by David Follett.
David is 30-years-old but in 2007 he suffered a road traffic accident which left him with a spinal cord injury at chest down.
After his accident he spent seven months in Salisbury Spinal Unit undergoing intense rehabilitation, before returning home and completing his education and gaining a university degree.
He now represents England at Para Badminton and is ranked number 22 in the world.
David’s talk is popular with WI and other social groups. David tells of his time in hospital after the accident, his rehabilitation and his determination to live life to the full.
He tells of the problems disabled people face in everyday life and how he has overcome these. He is the English national wheelchair badminton champion, he carried the Olympic torch, he demonstrated the exoskeleton suit and he has travelled the world.
David is a fully qualified badminton coach and regularly visits schools and colleges. His talks are inspirational, interesting, informative and in parts amusing.
The talk will begin promptly at 7.30pm. Admission is £6 and includes light refreshments.
To-date the roof appeal has raised £171,000.
