IN AN effort to pull together for the benefit of traders in the town and for Crediton as a whole, the Crediton Traders Group has become a sub-group of Crediton Chamber of Commerce.
Tara Conabeare, chairman, Crediton Traders Group, has described the move as a "positive step".
She explained: "The group has held discussions and meetings and also meetings with the Chamber of Commerce and we have concluded that a close working relationship will be of benefit.
"We have agreed to become a sub-group and this will give the traders a number of benefits, not only from working under the umbrella of the Chamber constitution but also access to funding.
"I have agreed to report Trader Group news to the Chamber and there will also be communication from the Chamber to the Trader Group.
"The Group is forging links with the Town Team, Crediton Town Council, Christmas in Crediton, Crediton Arts Centre and other town groups as well as the Chamber of Commerce and we are really trying to ensure all groups are working together.
"I am urging all the Trader Group members and other traders in the town to join the Chamber of Commerce.
"Traders should contact me for details at Evans Newsagents or alternatively, Leigh at Crediton Pet Shop."
Mrs Conabeare added: "The Chamber of Commerce has been revitalised and we are now all working together to make some good things happen."
Trader Group member David Oliver is also urging fellow members to join the Chamber of Commerce.
He said: "It is just 77p a week to be a member and joining forces will make a big difference to Crediton.
"It is a great place to live, work and shop and we all need to work together."
Chris Nicholl of Charlesworth Nicholl, solicitors, is chairman of Crediton Chamber of Commerce.
She said: "Crediton Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to be welcoming, as members, the Crediton Traders Group which will continue to operate as a working committee within Chamber.
"Having already formed a very productive working dialogue, we feel that as part of one organisation we can continue our work more effectively together in promoting and supporting our shops and local businesses."
The closer working relationship has been welcomed by Crediton Town Clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley, who said: "It is really great news that the two organisations are pulling together for the benefit of the traders and Crediton as a whole."
