A ONE-OFF print of a painting of Crediton Station in the 1950's or 60's was presented to Crediton Station Tea Rooms proprietor Linda Rogers to mark the 10 years that the Westcountry Area Group of the ScaleSeven Group has been meeting there.
The print was of a painting commissioned by a ScaleSeven member from Philip D Hawkins, who lives in South Devon.
It shows the ex-Southern Rail Maunsell N Class 2-6-0 number 31846 arriving on the down line at Crediton with the van train as the Bulleid Westcountry Class 4-6-2 number 34002 called Salisbury runs over the level crossing with the express for Waterloo.
It is a wonderful painting of Crediton Station by this man considered for many years to be the UK's foremost railway artist.
Two books of his work have been published, and were on sale at the Tea Rooms. His work was also used for post cards sold there. His paintings are included in several other railway books.
The ScaleSeven Group goes back to the 1970s when a group of railway modellers decided to work on a set of workable standards for true 7mm scale modelling.
The standards were based around the correct rail and wheel profiles, with a back-to-back distance of 31.2mm and a rail gauge of 33mm.
This is Linda's 13th year running Crediton Station Tea Rooms. On behalf of the Group, Bob Wigley thanked her for creating such a wonderful space for their meetings and for allowing them to have a layout and display there.
