SIMON O’Sullivan, local beekeeper and chairman of the Okehampton branch of the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) will be giving a talk at Crediton Library on Wednesday, November 14 at 7.30pm.

The talk entitled "Keeping Our Bees" will look at the different species of bees which can be seen in the local environment, it will look at their differing life cycles and the problems they are facing and how we can help.

Beekeepers are worried about the threat from the Asian Hornet.

This insect could be a real danger, not just to Honey bees, but to all our pollinators if it becomes established in this country.

This summer Simon spent some time in Jersey where in the last three years the Asian hornet has rapidly established itself.

He was learning tracking techniques and helping to find the nests.

The talk will cover identifying and avoiding confusion with our native hornet and how we can all help to combat this invasive species.
