THE next Sustainable Sundays tea party is at Crediton Library tomorrow, Sunday (March 15) starting at 4pm, with discussions planned around the topic of  “Emergency.”

The monthly event (on the third Sunday of each month) is organised by Friends of Crediton Library (FoCL).

"Unsurprisingly," says FoCL Chair Paul Vincent, "concerns about Coronavirus loom large at the moment and it seems sensible to share our thoughts on dealing with its impact on our community, at the most local level. More broadly, climate change presents another kind of emergency. Sunday’s event will address the challenges posed by unexpected events of all kinds, and consider how we as individuals, and as a local community can respond."

He continued: “Our first two meetings indicated a number of other topics, such as local transport provision, cutting down on plastic waste, planting trees and encouraging wildlife, which future meetings can address. Social cohesion is a key element of a sustainable society, whether local or global, and this is what these events encourage."

Sustainable Sundays are also an excellent opportunity to meet new people - and to share a delicious tea: those attending are asked to take something baked for the occasion.

The event’s structure includes short talks by one or two local speakers, collaborative discussions and/or craft projects within small groups and as a whole. Participants are invited to take news of upcoming events on climate change and sustainability themes, and to exchange skills and tips. The events are family-friendly: younger participants are encouraged to express their own views - but can of course opt out and read books instead if they like!

A record of the event is circulated after the event, and to any other interested parties via email. Sustainable Sundays is also on “Facebook” - search for Sustainable Sundays Crediton.

A donation of £2 per adult attending is invited, to cover costs and support FoCL projects at the library. FoCL would be grateful to know how many people will attend, for seating and catering purposes.
