A MID Devon District Council sub-committee has "pulled the plug" on proposals for a five-day music festival near Sandford. The district council's licensing committee held a special meeting on Monday, June 30, to discuss plans for the Sunset Music Festival, to be held at East Pidsley Farm from Thursday, August 28 to Monday, September 1. The applicants proposal attracted criticism about noise and traffic issues concerning two previous festivals held at the site. A police fear about there being too few security guards and the noise issues is believed to have swayed the decision of the councillors. Up to 1,500 were expected to attend the event. About 20 members of the public attended the meeting, many speaking against the plan. Tom Jones, Mid Devon District Council's licensing officer, said he was recommending refusal of the application as information in a risk assessment did not contain key details. The three-strong committee decided to refuse the plan, particularly citing noise issues and those raised by the police about security of the site.
