THE annual Sunnymead Gas-Up, held at Thorverton on Sunday, May 8, saw fine weather encourage a record attendance which proved the event was a great success.

It was the 15th year that this event has been hosted by the Lee family with the support of the Mid-Devon Tractor, Machinery and Engine Group, the East Devon Tractor, Machinery and Engine Club and the Devon branch of the Ford and Fordson Association.

There was an excellent display of vintage exhibits, reflecting the emphasis on tractors, farm and garden machinery and vehicles from the past.

These included about 60 tractors, a good selection of cars and motorbikes, two World War Two GMC Army lorries, a miniature steam traction engine, garden tractors and many stationary engines.

The oldest tractors were two impressive Allis Chalmers Model “E” steel-wheeled tractors from the 1930s owned by Mike Lee.

An outdoor skittle alley, a tombola stall and several bric-a-brac stands, as well as the refreshments served in the barn, proved popular attractions.

Children enjoyed the large bouncy castle provided especially for them. The day ended with a grand draw featuring many prizes.

The organisers thank all those who supported the event and are pleased to report that a total of £1,722 was raised for charity. This will be shared between the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and Thorverton Surgery.
