QUEEN Elizabeth’s School’s Year 9 nine students have been using their textile skills to create poppies that will be part of a tribute at the Devon County Show.

The idea was that there would be 11,000 hand-made poppies displayed in recognition of the 11,000 men and women from Devon who lost their lives in the First World War, but, due to the generosity of people across the county, more than 30,000 poppies, enough to remember all those across the South West who lost their lives in the First World War will now be displayed.

Poppies made by QE students will form part of the display.

A school spokesperson said: "The students brilliantly worked together in groups to form a production line, cutting fabric and embellishing it to form individual and very creative poppies."

The poppies will be on display in the Craft and Garden Marquee at the Devon County Show from May 18 to 20.
