THERE is now a strong chance that Pedlarspool Lane will not be closed to through traffic as part of a development of 257 homes alongside.

Mid Devon District Council’s principal planning officer, James Clements, was at an open meeting held by Crediton Town Council for people to ask questions and find out what they could do at this stage.

They were looking at a Reserved Matters planning application from Bellway Homes Limited to build 257 houses, up to five gypsy and traveller pitches with associated work in connection with 8.6ha of land to facilitate relocation of Crediton Rugby Club and up to 1.1ha of land for a future primary school.

Outline approval has been given, this time the application includes access which shows Pedlarspool Lane being closed at both ends for use only on foot or cycling.

This has brought a number of objections and at the meeting in Crediton Mr Clements was asked would tractors have to drive through the new estate?

He said this would be part of a Traffic Order agreement but because of the objections received he has spoken with Devon County Council about the use and it is now proposed for it not to be closed.
