HAVING finished first and second in the 2008 and 2009 Devon Leagues, the Copelander Crediton Squash First Team are now in contention for yet more success.
This is a small club with a seriously big heart. The 2010/11 season started with the backing of new sponsor Copelander On/Off Road Vehicles from Morchard Bishop and in return the team has not disappointed.
There has been a steady set of staggering results with Crediton consistently beating teams with a great deal more experience.
The side is made up primarily from home grown Crediton and surrounding district players - Neil Collins, Paul Sandercock, Ed Pattison, Steve Rickard, Ollie Coupe, Simon Grainger, Paul Sandys and Pete Harvey.
Whenever in trouble, the courageous individuals find extra energy and skill levels to pull out all the stops to win through.
For example, when really up against it, playing away at The Exeter Golf and Country Club with an injured player who had to retire, there were three other matches almost lost, yet Crediton still managed to win 3-2 when their exhausted No. 2 Paul Sandercock won 15-12 in the fifth set.
Crediton One are currently in promotion position in Division One having conquered a strong Dartington First team on Tuesday, March 1, 20- 5.
Neil Collins, at No. 1, having been beaten by Dominic Fenton away before Christmas, entertained the crowd to a 3-1 avenging victory at home.
There are two matches left and all to play for with four teams in contention.
Crediton were away to Fort Stamford in Plymouth last week and Tuesday, March 15 saw the last home match against a very strong Devon and Exeter side.
Crediton Squash Club also boasts two further league teams allowing youngsters and the not so young to learn to play and take part in competitive games and league matches.
The age range is roughly from 14 - 79 at present. Club nights are on Fridays at 7pm - just roll up and join in you will always get a warm welcome and plenty of tips!
