A QUILT inspired by a love of books and reading is on tour around Devon libraries and is currently in Crediton Library until the end of this month.

The quilt was created by the Quilting Fun group of Exmouth and District U3A and depicts shelves of books, as well as a curious cat.

The quilt took 12 quilters 80 hours of work to design, cut and stitch.

Clare Dawson, who co-ordinated the work, said: “Once a year our quilting fun group works together to produce a quilt with a theme, and then donates it to a chosen local charity.

This year it was a book-theme quilt and what better place than donating it to a library!

This is a very special quilt as it was started on the third week of the first lockdown, and nothing stopped the 12 members of the group organising themselves and working creatively together via Zoom to complete it.

They used different techniques such as appliqué, paper piecing and embroidery, as well as their own personal creative touch.”

The beautiful quilt is currently being raffled. You can buy a £1 raffle ticket by popping in to Crediton library, or by visiting peoplesfundraising.com/raffle/book-theme-quilt .

The closing date for entries is 5pm on June 30 and the draw will take place on Thursday, July 14.

Funds will go to Libraries Unlimited, the charity (registered charity number 1170092) that runs Devon libraries, in support of our communities.
