MAYPOLE Dancing, flower competitions, a Carnival procession, dancing, exhibitions and fun and games are among the activities which will be a part of Lapford Revel 2019, taking place in the village from tonight, Friday, June 28 to Saturday, July 6.

The Revel will have something for everyone, from the very youngest to the very eldest.

Tonight, at 7.30pm, there will be a History Talk by David Garton, entitled “Inspiring Lapfordians from 100 years ago”, which will take place in the Victory Hall.

Tomorrow, Saturday, June 29, there will be the Big Family Barn Dance, from 6pm to 10pm in the big steel barn at Lower Town Place. Admission is free-of-charge.

On Sunday, June 30, from 3pm to 4.30pm, there will be a Cream Tea with Crediton Town Band, to celebrate the centenary of the Victory Hall.

On the Tuesday, July 2, Lapford and District Horticultural Society will hold its Rose and Sweet Pea Show in the Victory Hall, open to the public from 7.30pm (free to enter).

Everyone is invited to gather at the Village Green on the Thursday (July 4) to await the arrival of the Carnival Procession, which will start at 6pm at the village car park and make its way to the green.

Registration will be from 4.30pm to 5.30pm in the School Hall.

The procession will be followed by the King and Queen Crowning.

After the ceremony there will be Maypole Dancing by children from Lapford Primary School.

That will be followed by a display by morris dancers.

That evening there will also be a barbecue, bar and chips available.

Children’s posters and artwork will be on display in The Ark on Thursday, July 4, from 6.30pm.

Friday, July 5 sees a Family Team Games Evening at the playing field organised by the Yeo Valley Christian Fellowship, beginning at 6.45pm.

Revel Day is Saturday, July 6, with events at the Playing Field.

The Fayre will open at 12 noon, with the official opening at 1pm.

There will also be stalls, a dog show, surf simulator, children’s entertainer Anna Banana, bouncy castle, pony rides, Jazz Band. Magician Paul Adams will be a popular attraction, as well as a tug-of-war competition, steam rides and assault course.

There will be refreshments and at 5pm, the raffle will be drawn.

On the Saturday evening (July 6), from 7pm, there will be a Ceilidh in the Main Marquee, which will be followed by a disco at 10.30pm.

On the Sunday, July 7, is the Village clear up from 10.30am and then there will be Morning Coffee and Group Lunch at 1pm.

At 6pm there will also be the Revel Service in St Thomas of Canterbury Church, where those attending will be able to see the floral displays in the church.

The theme of the service will be “Lapford in 1919” to celebrate 100 years of Lapford Victory Hall, the war memorial and the football club.

A skittles tournament will also be held on the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
