SHOWCASING the story of tractor manufacturing from pre Second World War to today’s electronic masterpieces, the Tractor Jamboree and Country Fair will present more than 30 vintage and modern day tractors, alongside many other attractions, to celebrate the heritage and skills of the rivers Exe, Culm and Creedy communities in Devon.
The free fun event will take place at the Exe Valley Shop off the A396 at Thorverton on Saturday, August 9 from 11am to 5pm, courtesy of Helen and Ross May and their family.
Organised by the NetherExe Mission Community to raise funds for the nine churches and FCN - Farming Community Network, the event will bring everyone together to enjoy a diverse mix of tractors, artisan craft, country skills and local food and drink.
Visitors of all ages will be enthralled and entertained by the static tractor display organised by Beares of Stoke Canon with the support of the Mid Devon Tractor, Engine and Machinery Group, with virtually every major manufacturer represented in the tractor display. There will also be a fascinating Penny Farthing bike display and competition.
Young children will love to ride on the Exeter Miniature Railway, while the family Dog Show, organised by Brampford Speke and Newton St Cyres churches, offers the chance to win prizes and rosettes, with classes for the waggiest tail, the most appealing eyes as well as the best child handler.
A dedicated Children’s Area organised by Thorverton Bubble Church will feature fun competitions and activities the whole day long, while Wellie Wanging and Skittles is sure to bring out the most competitive family rivalry.
There will be fly fishing demonstrations from the Devon School of Fly Fishing and a metal working display from artistic blacksmith Georgina Richards.
Topping the day will be the delicious home made refreshments from Rewe and Stoke Canon churches, the mouthwatering barbecue from Exe Valley Farm Shop as well as local ciders and beer from Find and Foster, the Beer Engine and Hanlons. There will be a bread making competition for all amateur enthusiasts.
A Grand Draw will be one of the highlights of the event with the chance to win a tour and lunch at the JCB Factory as well as many other prizes generously donated by local businesses including a fly fishing lesson on the River Exe from the Devon School of Fly Fishing, cream tea and tour of Fursdon House, Sunday lunch at the Stoke Canon Inn, a famous Thorverton Arms lunch, a free C and R MOT, Find and Foster cider and Quickes cheeses.
Led by the Reverend Tim Collins with the support of volunteers, he said: “The Tractor Jamboree and Craft Fair has been created to bring people and families together to shine a light on the rich heritage, local skills and businesses. It’s going to be a great day out with two worthy causes to support. I’m so proud of all the effort everyone has made to make this event a reality.”
