MEMBERS of Newton St Cyres Art Group received a pastel demonstration by Lynda Kettle at their meeting on May 30.

Lynda is full of enthusiasm and passion about art in its many forms. She demonstrated in soft pastels, working in the pointilliste style, covering the surface very quickly with a variety of marks: sharp stabs, vertical strokes, twisting lines, and dots of colour.

The scene of four trees in leaf, standing in a flower meadow against a bright sky, gained depth rapidly as she worked from top third to bottom third.

The division between the three sections was blurred by carefully incorporating the colours from each, and extra depth was added by first painting the foreground in a thin dark acrylic wash.

As green paintings are generally unpopular, she chose colours one would not normally associate with such a scene: such as vivid turquoise, purple and pink, and the overall effect was uplifting and joyful, as was her lively commentary throughout.

Details of Lynda’s various artistic achievements and her rich career, as well as a gallery of her work, can be found on her website, which is well worth a visit.
