SHOBROOKE Friendly Club held its annual Christmas Social Afternoon on Wednesday, December 9 in the village hall, which saw 31 members and friends in attendance.
Mr Jack Fey, the Club’s Chairman, acting as Master of Ceremonies greeted everyone at the start with a glass of sherry or non-alcoholic wine of their choice.
The afternoon commenced with a fine rendering of “Farmer’s Boy” by Mr John Powell, of Crediton, who then led the assembled members and friends in the singing of Christmas Carols.
A testing Quiz organised by club member, Mr Norman Gale, followed which was won by a team calling themselves “Couples”.
This was followed by more singing, whilst committee members prepared and handed around a good spread, of sandwiches, pasties, sausage rolls, mince pies and scones and cream, provided mainly by the committee.
After tea, there was a surprise visit from Father Christmas who drew the prizes for the draw, ably assisted by his accompanying elf.
The next meeting will be held on January 20 at 2.15pm at Shobrooke Village Hall, when Mr David Wendover will give a talk on his farming experiences in Africa.
On January 28 an evening trip to Tiverton pantomime has been organised to see The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe.
There are a few places on the coach still available. If anyone is interested in going, please contact Hon. Treasurer, Mrs Margaret Gale, for times and further information on telephone 01363 773282.
The Club is open to persons of 60 years of age who live in Shobrooke Parish, or its immediate surroundings.
