CALLING book lovers! A popular home library service provided by Devon Libraries in partnership with the Royal Voluntary Service (who some may remember as the WRVS), is calling for more readers to use this free service throughout Devon.

Devon Home Library Service brings books to people who no longer get to a library due to mobility issues, ill health or caring responsibilities. Volunteers choose and deliver books, sharing their love of reading and providing a friendly face and regular visitor to their “readers”.

The provision can be long-term or temporary, and includes those whose conditions may give them good and bad days so their ability to visit the library may be limited.

Readers may prefer to order their own books on-line and the volunteer will deliver them.

Books can be provided in normal print, large print, audio and, increasingly, electronic formats.

Individuals can discuss their preferences with their volunteers and they will do their best to find books that fit the bill.

There are no charges for overdue books, a longer lending period is standard, no charges for ordering books or for audio format. Plus you have them brought to you and the opportunity for a chat.

Cathy Saunders, the Service Manager in Devon feels there are individuals in the county who don’t get to hear about the service sometimes due to the very isolation or loneliness that this service may help to address.
