AT the June meeting of Sandford Parish Council, there was further discussion on the suggestions that “20’s Plenty” signs be installed in the parish.

It was agreed to make enquiries over the purchase of an “electronic flashing speed sign” like the one on the A377 at Newton St Cyres.

Police matters – It was agreed to ask when the Crediton Community Team are to visit Sandford? Disappointment was expressed that the Platinum Jubilee Banner had disappeared.

It was agreed to invite James Anstee (Devon County Council Road Safety Officer) to attend a Public Meeting to present his report, and proposals, for road safety issues in and around the Square.

The Clerk was asked to check availability of the parish hall and send off three suggested dates.

The Sandford Platinum Jubilee Celebration Working group was congratulated on a very successful weekend of events.

This had been a huge success, confirmed by the feedback from those attending the various events.

The highlight of the weekend had been the Beacon Lighting at New Buildings which had been attended by more than 300 parishioners and visitors from outside the Parish.

Thanks was extended to Angela Crooke and her merry band of helpers.   Also to Terry Petherick and his wife for allowing use of the Beacon field.

From the outset it had been intended to make free entry to all Jubilee events and thanks to generous donations from the Parish this had been achieved. The Parish Clerk had already made a start on a 2022 Platinum Jubilee Scrapbook and it was agreed to hold a “wash up meeting” to discuss final finances.

An update on the 2022 weeding in the village was received. It was noted that the volunteers had been “hand weeding”, and had not felt it necessary to use the suggested eco friendly weed spray. It was agreed to review the success of the weeding for 2022 at the September meeting.

Richard Spurway (Public Rights of Way - PROW) had responded regarding the boundary wall on the Furlongs Footpath which has fallen onto the footpath.

He said: “The Authority has control of the surface of a PROW in respect of the public user, so in this case we only maintain for pedestrian users. The Authority does not own the land used by PROWs. The stone wall is not part of the footpath and would belong to the landowner.”

Tania Weeks, PROW, had responded to other issues on the Furlongs footpath.

Mid Devon District Council had responded to the complaint over the use of Parish/Town locations on planning applications and were to discuss this matter, on the telephone, with Cllr Elizabeth Dalton.

Weavers Way / Creedy View 2 - A further meeting was proposed with Adrian Devereaux, MDDC Planning Officer, plus the Chairman of MDDC Planning and the developer.

Website, Highways and Footpaths - No new matters reported but the number of potholes still in need of attention was growing. Parishioners were encouraged to report potholes and any highway issues on the Devon County Council website.
