The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) is attending the Devon County Show to help Devonshire farmers, land managers and environmentalists understand how the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) will affect them. The Agency will be raising awareness of the new CAP schemes at the event, which is held at the Devon County Showground, Westpoint, between 22 and 24 May. Under the new CAP, farming, wildlife, rural businesses and the wider economy in England are set to receive £15 billion in funding from 2014 to 2020. RPA Customer Director Justin Chamberlain said: "The Countdown to CAP Reform has begun, and the first information to help people understand how the new CAP will affect them, and what they need to do by when, is now available. "The Devon County Show is an important one for us to get out and speak face-to-face with farmers, landowners and agents, to help them get ready for Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) changes in 2015. "People are encouraged to come along to the stand and find out more about the new schemes and timing of further updates, and we are on hand to answer your questions where we have the information. Where policy is yet to be agreed, we will incorporate your queries into future guidance. "At each step of the CAP Reform Countdown, information will be made available to help people move as smoothly as possible to the new schemes and online service. "We are determined to implement the CAP in a way that is as simple, affordable and effective as possible." Defra is currently developing CAP schemes to reflect the new requirements including those relating to greening, the active farmer test, hill farmers and young farmers. The RPA will keep up-to-date information available through the GOV.UK website at http://www.gov.uk/cap-reform">www.gov.uk/cap-reform.
