AUDIENCES have this week been thrilled by the exceptional talent of actors, musicians and the production skills of those currently staging “Return to the Forbidden Planet” at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton.
Students from QE’s Theatre Academy have been channelling their artistic energies into demanding rehearsals for many weeks and performances began on Tuesday, February 5 and run until tomorrow evening, Saturday, February 9.
Based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” and the 1956 science fiction film “Forbidden Planet”, “Return to the Forbidden Planet” is a Jukebox musical by playwright Bob Carlton and is packed with classics such as “Great Balls of Fire”, “Good Vibrations” and “Gloria”.
The show scored an Olivier Award for Best Musical almost 30 years ago.
Vicky Evans, Head of Drama at QE, said: “As ever the cast is brimming full with talented young performers and this year, not only, are their skills as actors, singers and dancers being show-cased, but also, as musicians, with some of our artists playing live on stage wearing roller-skates!”
Blending science-fiction, Shakespeare, fabulous live music and outrageous costumes, “Return to the Forbidden Planet” is delivering a ton of fun for audiences.
Praise should also be extended to not only Vicky Evans but also Lucy Welsman, Rob Logan, Mike Brookes and may others.
Performances begin at 7.30pm and there is an additional 2.30pm matinee tomorrow, Saturday.
All performances are being held at QE Drama Hall (Western Road) and tickets, priced at £10 for adults, £7 for students, are available from QE School Libraries on 01363 778365.
Rush now to get tickets for this very special show!
